jerami

I think not everyone knows about "jerami" right? Only paddy's farmers know this,so after this post you will know what is "jerami".

JERAMI FALL FROM HOLE BEHIND PADDY'S MACHINE

JERAMI ON THE PADDY'S STUMP

JERAMI ON THE GROUND

From "jerami" sometime the farmers will make "orang-orang" or else they will burn because the "jerami" will stuck at the plow machine and it will take more time to take it out. So, the "jerami" must be burn. When this time come, my house will full of smoke and make my eye look like a vampire...hahahah. It hurt my eye..huhh!!

orang-orang

Do you like bird? i always want to preserve an owl but it must have license to keep it,so i forget it...huhuh.

Paddy's Farmers are anti birds because birds like paddy's seeds,so this will decrease the production of the rice. The farmers use a tool that we call "orang-orang". This tool are human doll made by wood, cloth and "jerami". From far its look like human, so the birds will afraid of this.

ORANG-ORANG

The farmer will place "orang-orang" in the paddy field and from far, it looks like human in the paddy field. Nice trick huhh??hehe...

modern harvesting

Modern era have help produce more rice for them. It is because the machine was born with new technology. In harvesting paddy (rice plant), we use a machine call "mesin padi". The paddy will cut by the tool in the front of the machine and it will suck into the body of the machine. When the paddy in the body, it will send to the space that have a fan to separate seeds from the plant. Then the seeds will fall in a container inside the body and transfer to another container on top of the machine. The waste (plant) will transfer to the back of the machine and fall back into the paddy field.

The waste that fall back into the paddy field, we called it "jerami" (the plant that has been separate from it's seeds). Then, the farmer will burned the "jerami" to make plow come easy. Another machines will use to plow and i will post it in other time..

traditional harvesting

TRADITIONAL

The traditional way used more energy and effort. Firstly they must reap the rice plant by hand and then they put it together in one place. The tool they used to separate the seed from the plant we call "Banting".

BANTING

After that, they grab a little bit of the rice plant and smash it to the board in the container (must used a lot of energy to separate them...hehe). Then, the seed are fall into the container.

To take out the rice from the seeds, another tool have to use. We called it "lesung kaki" or "lesung". This tool is to smash the seeds with the wood. The skin of seeds will separate from the rice after smashed by the wood. Then, they have to used wind to remove the skin from container and we call it "tampi". It also have a tool made by the woods called "kebuk" (i don't have the picture right now) to produced winds and it will remove the skin of the seeds. And that it, we have RICE and cook it to eat...hehehe.

The modern way i didn't know much since it was secret to anyone. What i know they use a machine...haha.

kebokta

Hello everyone..how are you today? i'm very happy today because a new idea has came into my mind what i want to write...hehe. Okay, this post are about the plow machine and one of the machine, i always drive in my child hood....awesome,hehe...

There are many types of plow machine that are used in planting paddy. Soon after the harvesting, the ground must be plow before planting again but it must plow after the paddy field full of water because paddy needs water. The plow machine that i describe is "kebokta" (Kedah's dialect). In my childhood, i always help my father plow the ground using "kebokta".

This machine are easy to handle, so i can drive it although i'm only 10 years old...hehe. Three things must know about this machine before drive, gear, brake and steering. Before drive it, we must make sure the brake are on, then insert the gear and release the brake. If want to turn, just pull a stick left or right to turn. Easy right...hehehe

rice plant

In Malaysia, our main staple food is RICE. Did you know how the rice plant look like?

The rice plant also known as paddy that can be found more in the state of Kedah, Malaysia because the majority of this state are farmer and the state became the rice produced for all Malaysian. The rice plant are planted by the seed (rice that we eat) or the baby rice plant ( we call "semai" in Kedah dialect).

BABY RICE PLANT

There are two ways to take out the rice from the seed. We take out the seed using traditional way and modern way. The traditional way are not practical now because majority farmers have a lot of land to planted so they use the modern way.
